In Vehicle Solutions
Recorded evidence to uphold the law
Perpetrators are finding increasingly innovative ways to evade the law, often using legal loopholes to avoid prosecution. Generally this is due to lack of indictable evidence. Arrests made on streets and highways for DUI, speeding or reckless driving, possession of illegal substances, violence and or threats to law enforcement staff, all require hard evidence in most countries to indict the perpetrators.
Modern In-Vehicle Solutions are one of the more reliable and most popularly adopted technologies that help protect both the officers of the law as well as the civilians. They consist of one or more high resolution cameras mounted within a police squad car covering different views within and outside the vehicle. Additionally, one of the cameras can be a body worn camera worn on the officers uniform. All interactions with the suspect are recorded pre and post arrest using video and audio recording. All communications within the squad car, whether on the radio or in-person is recorded, These special in-vehicle systems allow for in-vehicle storage, wireless transmission of all recordings and data such as GPS coordinates in encrypted format, password protected logs, archiving and information retrieval.
The system includes a ruggedized in-vehicle hard disk type storage device. Recorded audio and video are also transmitted over radio to the control room for back up and verification. A dashboard mounted ruggedized screen allows the officers to make settings, adjustments and review video in the vehicle itself. The entire system is powered through a special power distribution device fed off the vehicle battery.
If an incident occurs, audio and video is stored with time date and location stamp. This evidence, can be provided as proof of what actually happened. And as this footage has a secure trail with a digital signature, it is accepted as evidence in the court of law in many countries.
These systems also provide a deterrent against attacks on a police officer. When people are put under pressure, they are more likely to react negatively and can also cause them to lash out. If they see the camera they are much more likely to behave.
A camera is often installed viewing inside the police car and is ideal for times when police need to transport criminals to and from the police station.
Newer in-vehicle system can also provide automatic Number plate recognition (ANPR) and even face recognition, providing on the spot citations. Perin 7 has assisted a number of end-users selecting the right system for their task.

One of the cornerstones of a well designed system, whether for security or communication is being able to transmit audio, video and data securely and instantly. Putting all the bits and pieces of information gathered through sources such as CCTV, card readers, biometric devices, onto a common backbone can be challenging. We provide advice and design support on developing a network structure for data whether through analog, digital, IP, fibre or wireless spectrum. We ensure point to point, point to multipoint and multipoint to multipoint connectivity.
The challenges faced while developing suitable network connectivity are many. At the outset, a study and review needs to be done with the client regarding the kind of data they are handling, the volume of data to be transmitted, distances to be transmitted, the mode of transmission, whether single mode or multimode, fibre or copper, IP or digital. Apart from that there are peculiar challenges with respect to law enforcement and military requirements, which would typically demand end to end encryption, mobility, functionality in areas where little or no infrastructure exists.
